Russia has launched a lethal attack on Ukraine early on Tuesday. At least 23 people were killed in the assault, including seven people in Kyin and 16 in Dnipro. At least 2 children were among those killed.
In the capital more than 41,000 residents sought shelter in the Kyiv Metro.
The attack included more than 600 drones and dozens of missiles. Civilian infrastructure suffered damage in the attack, including medical facilities, residential and commercial buildings.
Moscow had vowed to retaliate for a wave of Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil assets. The aerial attacks by both sides come amind a relative stalemate in fighting on the ground. The Ukraine-Russia war has turned into a grinding war of attrition.
According to Ukrainian Air Forces, Russia fired 656 drones and 73 missiles at Ukraine on Tuesday, with the majority of drones and just over half of the missiles being shot down. The air force also said that Russia fired eight hypersonic Zircon missiles. According to the air force statement the main targets were Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Poltava.
Last month, Moscow blamed Kyiv for an attack on a college dormitory in Starobilsk, a town in the Luhansk region.
