Situated on the banks of the Chizhovka Reservoir in the south of Minsk, the Chizhovka Arena is a year-round cultural and sporting destination serving athletes, families, and major event audiences alike.
The Chizhovka Arena stands on the bank of the Chizhovka Reservoir in the Chizhovka district of southern Minsk — one of the city’s large residential areas that takes its name from the reservoir beside which it grew. A roller ski course runs close to the arena, reflecting the complex’s ambition to serve multiple disciplines and provide active recreation infrastructure beyond the main building. The setting — water on one side, residential Minsk stretching away on the other — gives the arena a distinctive character among the city’s sporting venues.
The arena is a genuinely versatile facility, designed and operated to host a wide range of events: ice hockey matches and figure skating competitions sit alongside concerts, entertainment shows, presentations, and business forums in its annual calendar. The complex holds more than 7,000 spectators, a capacity that makes it one of the larger enclosed venues in Minsk and suitable for events that require both a substantial crowd and a professional technical infrastructure. A variety of gyms within the complex provides conditions for high-quality training across multiple sports disciplines.
Ice hockey is a particular focus. The arena hosts matches at various levels of the game each year and is the venue for the final rounds of the Golden Puck — the national children’s and teenagers’ hockey competition held for the Prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus. Beyond competitive hockey, the ice rinks are open to the public for recreational skating, making the arena a popular destination for family outings and individual fitness in the colder months.
The arena’s calendar extends well beyond winter sport. The Union State Open Fencing Championship — bringing together more than 200 of the best fencers from Belarus and Russia to compete for 12 sets of medals across foil, épée, and sabre disciplines — is among the international competitions the venue has hosted. Events of this scale, combining technical precision with the theatre of elite individual combat, demonstrate the breadth of the arena’s programming ambitions and its capability as a multi-sport competition venue.
In May 2026, the Chizhovka Arena hosted the Festival of Hope — a major evangelical event featuring Franklin Graham, president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, on his first visit to Belarus. More than 700 evangelical churches from across the country participated. The two-day festival, held on 16 and 17 May, drew thousands of attendees and carried a message of peace and personal renewal. That a venue more usually associated with ice hockey and figure skating could accommodate a gathering of this spiritual and organisational scale speaks to the Chizhovka Arena’s place as one of Minsk’s most adaptable and well-used public spaces.
